DCI Tip: You’re gonna hate it before you love it.
So everyone’s moving in right about now so I thought this is a good time for this.
Know that even as much as all of us vets miss the summer when the season is over, the beginning really sucks. A lot. You’re probably going to ask yourself “why the {insert 1 or more expletives} did I decide to do this”. Because it gets really awesome after you do the hard work. All-days is the devil, but with tour comes the glory. Know it’s worth it, and don’t quit.
Anonymous asked: What's a "tour goggle"?
Tour Goggles (noun): A word used to a describe a state of being in which other people appear more attractive than they actually are. The combination of seeing the same people everyday, and people becoming tan and in shape causes a false sense of attractiveness. Akin to beer googles.
DCI Tip: Spring Training and High School
So let’s say you want to do DCI? But spring training happens while you are still in school. Lets look at your options:
- Don’t March (the worst option)
- Participate on the weekends until school is out (which is what most corps ask that you do)
- Get released early from school. You can have your corps director write a super official letter to your school, and have that taken care of. Just know that it is up to you to figure out how your finals will be taken care of.
And now you know!
Drum Corps tip: It’s going to suck before it gets awesome.
All days sucks. No matter how in shape you are. Know this now. If it’s your first year there will probably be a day where you hate life and you wish you had never signed up for it. Think of that as your worst day, and know it only gets better from there. It’s so worth it if you don’t quit. So don’t quit.
